About us

Welcome to Bluechip Aquatics!

Bluechip Aquatics has evolved and grown over the last twenty years. Many of our fellow hobbyists may have known us a premier importer of wild caught fish from both Malawi and Tanganyika through 2011. Rising fuel costs, political instability in the African Regions and a declining U.S. economy caused us to cease importation and distribution, We have used the last three years to explore a more balanced and sustainable model, so Welcome to the new BluechipAquaticsonline.com. We are excited, and now able to offer both wild and tank/farm raised fishes from both Africa and South & Central America. Our unique ability to offer our bred fish at both small and breeder sizes will truly benefit the hobbyist, while keeping costs lower than our wild stock. Please explore our new site, and as always, feedback is welcomed.

Our Fish- Sizing and Sexing

Pairs are defined as one male & one female, trios are defined as one male and two females. We do not guarantee sexing, however our years of experience in handling and venting fish provide and extremely high rate of accuracy, but we are human! Our goal is your satisfaction. Wild fish are often smaller than tank raised fish, especially the predatory types, since they are not fed twice a day like in your tanks. Please inquire if you have concerns about sizing. Our tank raised fish sizing is typically as follows:

Small-up to 2.0”

Medium- usually from 2.25”- 3.0”

Large- 3.0” plus

Obviously these sizes are generalizations and Tanganyikan Shell Dwellers would not fit these sizing classes. As stated above, please inquire about sizing as needed.
